GERRY WEDD  workshop -  'Dyspotian Making- bad puns good pots'

Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 September

Gerry Wedd is a surfer and potter, who worked with leisure wear company Mambo from 1986 until 2006, producing drawings for t-shirts and fabrics. Gerry has exhibited extensively in Australia and internationally.The 2 day workshop will involve ceramic building and decorating techniques incorporating coil and strap building, simple slab building, sprig decoration,

 slip decoration, sgraffito, underglaze decoration and using imagery on pots.

Wheel Throwing Extended

This 6 week course will provide an opportunity for those who have completed a Term with CLAD or elsewhere, to extend your skills.

Wednesday 18 September to Wednesday 23 October     6.00pm - 8.30pm each week

Maximum 8 students per class

Cost is $375, payable on booking

Introduction to Wheel Throwing

This 6 week course will provide the foundations for working on the potter's wheel.

Thursday 19 September to Thursday 24 October     6.00pm - 8.30pm each week

Maximum 8 students per class

Introduction to the Ceramics Studio

Over 4 weeks, participants will gain a broad knowledge of the materials, tools and techniques required to set up a basic ceramic studio and make different types of work, from discussion of the various raw materials through to making, glazing and firing. The class will be hands on and include discussion and demonstration. No previous ceramic experience is necessary.

Week 1 - Introduction to Materials, techniques & tools required to form clay. Looking at the wheel, hand-building' simple moulding & casting

Week 2 - Finishing projects begun in Week 1. Workshop methods, styles & approaches. Stacking a bisque kiln

Week 3 - Making and applying glazes, kilns and firing techniques. Packing a glost kiln.

Week 4 - Unpacking the kiln, finished work, demonstrations and guidance.

Saturday 21 September to Saturday 12 October 10.00am to 2.00pm each week

About CLAD

CLAD, the Bendigo Pottery Centre for Learning and Design, is a large, fully equipped ceramic studio sitting within Bendigo Pottery’s extensive manufacturing facility.   Under the guidance of Creative Director Dr Damon Moon, CLAD is dedicated to developing the careers of emerging potters and ceramic artists through mentorship, skills development and a comprehensive network of connections within the art and design industries.

CLAD offers the following opportunities for ceramic practitioners of all skill levels:

  • Regular short courses in wheel throwing and other studio techniques for novice to intermediate  levels
  • Master classes with leading national and international practitioners
  • Short and medium term studio residency and visiting internships
  • Industry consultancy to product and interior designers and architects
  • Research and  advocacy
  • A one year full time Studio Development Program for potters, designers and ceramic artists to develop their skill level, create new bodies of work or transition into professional practice.

CLAD Facilities:          

Studio facilities include throwing, mould making, slip casting, hand building, jolley, extruding, drying room, glazing, range of electric and gas kilns.

Factory facilities which are available include: jolleys, plate machine, cup machine, bowl machine, and RAM press.

 



'Design In Clay' Friday 28 June

A one day, intensive workshop for designers interested in working with ceramics, held at CLAD, the Centre for Learning and Design at Bendigo Pottery.

Learn the processes involved in turning clay into objects, including moulding and casting, machine and hand-forming, glazing, drying and firing, decorative techniques and more.

Run by Rod Thomson, owner of Bendigo Pottery, and Dr Damon Moon, Creative Director of CLAD, this one day workshop will tell you everything you wanted to know about clay, and possibly a little extra.

Places limited. Bookings essential. 10am to 5pm. Lunch included. Post workshop discussion in Bendigo.
